Maternity Leave

This is a legal question, so anyone with experience in this area is more than welcome to answer. I am not eligble for FMLA maternity leave since will not have worked for my company for 12 months prior to taking leave (and the company is far too small to qualify anyway). When I told the VP that I was pregnant, she congratulated me, then said, "I'm sorry to say that I don't know what your maternity leave will be..." I said that can be discussed later (since it was still early and the chance for miscarriage at that point is high, etc. I also thought I was legally covered for 12 weeks, but now I see that I am not. I live in Texas, which allows employers to fire employees for (literally) no reason at all nomatter how long they've been there. Does anyone know if there are any federal minimum requirements that would apply to me? I really don't want to take only a few weeks off after my baby is born, but we can't afford for me to be a stay-at-home Mom (which would be ideal).
